“We are seriously working with the Customs on this and each time they seize any container, they usually invite us to come and see the containers with tramadol. So far, 35 containers were seized and only nine of them have been handed over to NAFDAC, which we have destroyed.” However, she urged the customs authority to be swift while handing over the rest of the containers to her agency.

She reiterated that tramadol is restricted in the country but Nigerians have continued to abuse it. She noted that the drug destroys children’s brain, thereby threatening the future generation of the nation. She also commended the efforts of the present administration in placing a ban on codeine, which, like tramadol, should be given only by prescription as done in advanced countries.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has announced that it has seized no fewer than 35 containers of tramadol at various ports in the country. Professor Moji Adeyeye, Director-General of the drugs and food agency, disclosed this while speaking with NAN in Abuja on Sunday.

Vice Presidents Who Complete Presidents’ Tenure From Re-contesting

Enang explained that with new law (Act 16), persons who have taken the oath of President or governor once can only contest one more time afterwards. Furthermore, as part of the amendments made to the Constitution, the President granted financial autonomy to state judiciaries and Houses of Assembly.

Another of the four bills that were passed provides the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), sufficient time to conduct bye-elections, increasing the time from seven to 21 days, which widens the scope of the electoral body to handle election matters upon a vacancy.

The President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday signed into law, a bill that stops a Vice President who completes the tenure of a President from re-contesting for the office of the President more than once. Also, a deputy governor who succeeds a governor can no longer contest for that office more than once after the initial tenure. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Ita Enang, disclosed this to journalists at the State House, Abuja on Friday.

Buhari Wants To hang A Crime On Me And Detain Me Indefinitely, Says Obasanjo

Obasanjo added that since that could expose the government to a swath of international condemnation, embarrassment and outrage, it is said that another plot being hatched is to cause the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to re-open the investigation into the activities of Chief Obasanjo’s administration using false witnesses and documents. Obasanjo said he would not have raised the alarm were it not for the ongoing victimization of Speaker Yakubu Dogara of the House of Representatives and Senate President Bukola Saraki

The Former President Olusegun Obasanjo also said the government of President Muhammadu Buhari is daily perfecting plans on how to curtail his personal liberties and hang a crime on him. Obasanjo said this on Friday in a statement released on his behalf by Kehinde Akinyemi, his spokesman.

He said a part of the plan was to seize his International passport and clamp him into detention indefinitely, in order to prevent him from further expressing angst on the pervasive mediocrity in the quality of governance, economic management and in the protection of lives and property by the government.

“Dear Nigerians, I am delighted to announce that, after due consultations, the Federal Government has decided that henceforth, June 12 will be celebrated as Democracy Day. “We have also decided to award posthumously the highest Honour in the land, GCFR, to Chief MKO Abiola. “In the view of Nigerians, as shared by this Administration, June 12, 1993, was and is far more symbolic of Democracy in the Nigerian context than May 29, or even October 1,” his tweet read.

President Buhari also conferred a national honour on Baba Gana Kingibe and recognised late Gani Fawehinmi for his role in the actualisation of the June 12 elections. Chief Abiola’s running mate, Ambassador Baba Gana Kingibe, is also to be awarded a GCON.

President Muhammadu Buhari has announced June 12 as the new date which Democracy Day will be celebrated in Nigeria. He also conferred a posthumous GCFR title on the presumed winner of June 12, 1993, presidential election, Moshood Abiola. The President in a tweet on his official handle explained why June 12 will replace May 29. He noted that June 12 is a more symbolic day.

According to Jonathan, “the same President was speaking in the United Kingdom when he made disparaging remarks about Nigeria’s currency’’.

“If it has got to a level when the Presidents of neighbouring countries will cite Nigeria as a negative example, then we must know as leaders of this country that certain things are not going well, and we must change the way we do things.”

Bawa also disagreed with Jonathan’s reference to Akufo-Addo’s purported disposition towards cattle-rearing. Ghana’s High Commissioner in Nigeria, Mr. Rashid Bawa, has denounced ex-President Goodluck Jonathan for misquoting President Nana Akuffo-Addo over the security situation in Nigeria.

He said on Friday that Jonathan “took the words of President Akufo-Addo completely out of context” when he quoted the Ghanaian leader of mocking Nigeria. The High Commissioner said Jonathan misquoted Akuffo-Addo’s speech delivered at the Oxford African Conference,

Jonathan had at the unveiling of a flyover in Ado Ekiti said Nigeria had deteriorated so much that it had lost its respect in Africa. Jonathan in his speech at the inauguration on May 25 said: “A President of a neighbouring country, Ghana, recently made two negative remarks about Nigeria. First, the current Ghanaian President was addressing Ghanaians about the movement of cattle within their shores and he said openly that Ghana is not like Nigeria where cattle roam freely. That was quite uncomplimentary.

The Vice President said Nigeria could be easily plunged into another round of civil war if the issue of herdsmen killings was not handled with great care and wisdom.

Osinbajo expressed the confidence that Leah Sharibu, the only girl who is still being held captive by the Boko Haram, would be released very soon because negotiations were still ongoing on her release.

Not that alone , the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said the lopsidedness in the appointment of security chiefs in the country needs an urgent review in order to pacify some aggrieved sections of the country and to bring out more efficiency in their operations.

He also advocated community policing in order to make response to emergency situations quicker so as to curb the killings in different parts of the country.

Osinbajo, who said it was not true to claim that the killings in some parts of the country were targeted at only Christians, said the blood thirsty hoodlums had attacked mosques as well and had also killed many in Muslim communities especially in Zamfara State.

GlobalCorruption Perception Index:
This year’s Corruption Perceptions Index highlights that the majority of countries are making little or no progress in ending corruption, while further analysis shows journalists and activists in corrupt countries risking their lives every day in an effort to speak out.The index, which ranks 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption according to experts and businesspeople, uses a scale of 0 to 100, where 0 is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean. This year, the index found that more than two-thirds of countries score below 50, with an average score of 43. Unfortunately, compared to recent years, this poor performance is nothing new. This year, New Zealand and Denmark rank highest with scores of 89 and 88 respectively. Syria, South Sudan and Somalia rank lowest with scores of 14, 12 and 9 respectively. The best performing region is Western Europe with an average score of 66. The worst performing regions are Sub-Saharan Africa (average score 32) and Eastern Europe and Central Asia (average score 34).

India doctors remove world's 'largest brain tumour':
Doctors in India who have removed a 1.8kg (2.2lbs) brain tumour from a 31-year-old man say it could be the largest in the world. The surgery, which lasted seven hours, took place on 14 February at the Nair hospital in the western city of Mumbai. But the procedure was not made public as doctors were not sure until now if it had been successful. "Now it's a matter of recovery but he's out of danger", Dr Trimurti Nadkarni, chief of neurosurgery, told the BBC. Santlal Pal, a shopkeeper from the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, had been living with the tumour for three years before his surgery was carried out. Doctors said Mr Pal had lost his vision because of the tumour but hoped he would regain it as he continued to recover from the operation. His wife told the Hindu newspaper that they had been told by doctors at three different hospitals in Uttar Pradesh that the tumour was inoperable. "Such cases are critical", said Dr Nadkarni, adding that Mr Pal needed 11 units of blood during the operation and after that, he was connected to a ventilator for a few days after the surgery.

Boston Dynamics Gives Another ReasonRobots Will Hate Us:
In one of the scariest moments in the movie Jurassic Park, a pair of intelligent Velociraptors, brought back to Earth by man's hubris, defy an assumption about their limitations: They open a kitchen door. Now imagine that the raptors are real, transformed into headless robot dogs that can negotiate stairs, fling open doors with their robotic claws and generally overcome the puny obstacles offered up by the human technicians at Boston Dynamics. The robotics company posted a video last week, showing two of their yellow SpotMini robots helping each other enter a door. Now the company has released a sequel in which a single 2.5-foot-tall (75 cm robot) robot is controlled by an unseen human driver who directs the robot claw to the door handle and issues a "Go" command.Besides providing nightmare fuel for humankind, and plotlines for the bleak tech world TV show Black Mirror, the robots could also offer more positive benefits. During a natural or human-made disaster, for instance, they could help navigate situations that would otherwise put people in danger.

Ford executive leaves over inappropriate behaviour:
The head of Ford's US operations is leaving the company immediately following an internal investigation into inappropriate behaviour. The carmaker said its inquiry had concluded that some of Raj Nair's conduct had been "inconsistent with the company's code of conduct". Ford did not specify why the investigation was started nor what it uncovered. Mr Nair said in a statement that "I sincerely regret" certain behaviour.Ford President and Chief Executive Jim Hackett said in a statement: "We made this decision after a thorough review and careful consideration. Ford is deeply committed to providing and nurturing a safe and respectful culture and we expect our leaders to fully uphold these values." Mr Nair had been President of Ford North America since 1 July. He was previously head of global product development and chief technical officer. He apologised, without elaborating on the reasons for his going. A spokesman for the US's second-biggest carmaker said the company would not be commenting on the nature of Mr Nair's departure.

Woman credits FaceTime with saving her life after her sister detected signs of a stroke:
Just a week after the Apple Watch aided a mother and son who were involved in a car accident, FaceTime is being credited with helping save a woman's life. As reported by the BBC, a woman was on FaceTime with her sister when she suffered from a stroke. Opokua Kwapong, a New York resident who lives alone, was on a FaceTime video call with her sister Adumea Sapong, who lives in Manchester, when Sapong noticed that something didn't seem right. Sapong explains that Kwapong thought she was "making a fuss," so she decided to reach out to their other sister, who is a doctor. "She thought I was making a fuss so I then conferenced in one of my other sisters, who is a doctor, and she could hear her speaking and could also tell that her speech was slurred. We both told her to call for help straightaway.” Kwapong then hung up and called 911. After hospital scans, she was diagnosed with having a clot on the brain and the stroke has left her paralyzed on her left side.Ms Kwapong, who works as a food scientist, said: “There is no doubt that FaceTime saved my life. If my sister had not noticed that something was not right, then things could have been so different."FaceTime is designed as very straight-forward video and audio calling feature, but as this story exemplifies, even the basic features can be lifesaving.

"Black Panther" Is Also Breaking Box Office Records In Africa:
As you might have heard, Black Panther is a massive, record-breaking box office sensation. Through Monday, the Marvel Studios release has earned $242.2 million domestically, the second-best four-day return ever for a feature film, behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens.Internationally, Black Panther is also a giant blockbuster, earning $184.6 million through Monday — and that's before the film has premiered in China, Japan, and Russia, three of the biggest markets in the world. The film has become a watershed for movies starring black actors, dismantling the myth in Hollywood that they aren't financially successful internationally. It is also an unprecedented hit for a film set in Africa — in Black Panther's case, the fictional nation of Wakanda, but still emphatically set within the continent.. So it's perhaps not that surprising that Black Panther also broke several box office records in Africa. Disney confirmed to BuzzFeed News that the film earned the third-biggest opening weekend in South Africa (behind 2015's Furious 7 and 2017's The Fate of the Furious), and set new opening weekend records in the film distribution territories of West Africa and East Africa (each consisting of several countries). The amounts of those records are fractions of what Black Panther has earned elsewhere in the world: In South Africa, it was $1.4 million; in West Africa, roughly $400,000, and in East Africa, roughly $300,000.Those figures indicate both how small and how new of a market sub-Saharan Africa remains for Hollywood features. For example, in Nigeria, which features a robust filmmaking industry known as Nollywood, many movies historically premiered either on television or direct to home video, bypassing theatrical distribution entirely. Much like Black Panther's impact elsewhere, however, the film has created a new model for how Hollywood could roll out its feature films in major African markets — and smaller ones, too.

Jennifer Lawrence Offendedby Dress Controversy- "This Is Sexist" :
Earlier this week, the 27-year-old Oscar winner wore a black, plunging Versace Pre-Fall 2018 gown to a photocall for her latest film Red Sparrow in London. Some people on social media criticized her over her outfit, which she wore while posing for photos with her male co-stars, all bundled up in coats amid the near-freezing temperatures."I don't really know where to get started on this 'Jennifer Lawrence wearing a revealing dress in the cold' controversy," she said. "Over-reacting about everything someone says or does, creating controversy over silly innocuous things such as what I choose to wear or not wear, is not moving us forward." Lawrence's femme fatale look at the photocall also corresponds to the persona of her Red Sparrow character; she plays a sexy Russian spy.

Lindsey Vonn’s Dad’s Brutal Olympic Bronz Medal Smackdown:
To most families, a bronze medal at age 33 - the oldest ever for an alpine skier - would be considered a proud accomplishment, but apparently not to Lindsey Vonn’s father. In an emotional third-place finish in her likely final women’s downhill Wednesday, Vonn fought tears while explaining just how special this medal was to her after finishing behind Italy’s Sofia Goggia and Norway’s Ragnhild Mowinckel. “I wanted to win so much for him,” Vonn, referring to her late grandfather, Don Kildow, said after the race. “But I still think I made him proud. Our family never gives up, and I kept working hard and I’m really proud of this medal. I know he is, too.”Her pride in the event wasn’t replicated by her father, Alan Kildow, who recently reconciled with Vonn after more than a decade of tension and little communication.“It’s great skiing, but it reminds me of something that Buddy Werner used to say,” Kildow told USA Today Sports, referring to a US skier from the 1950s. “He said there’s two places in the race, first and last, and I only want one of them.” Kildow’s criticism of Vonn’s bronze run was centered on her needing to be more aggressive. “Just little, little spots,” he added. “Just not quite risking enough. Not straightening the line out, just the ski was little … not quite carving in some places like it should have. But a great result. A great result.” Speaking after her race, Vonn, who was favoured to win the event, expressed how grateful she was to have her father and family get to see her compete in PyeongChang. Kildow introduced Vonn to the sport at a young age, but the two grew distant after a 22-year-old Vonn married Thomas Vonn in 2007, as outlined in a Sports Illustrated feature. She kept his last name after the couple divorced four years later and, in between then, Vonn won gold in the downhill at the Vancouver Games while Kildow watched from his office in the States. The death of Kildow’s father and Vonn’s grandfather, Don, brought the two emotionally back together last year.

Sevilla 0 Manchester United 0: De Gea ensures Mourinho's men stay level:
Manchester United survived plenty of pressure to claim a 0-0 draw at Sevilla in the first leg of their Champions league last-16 clash, owing particular thanks to an immense David de Gea save at the end of the first half.Sevilla controlled proceedings for much of the game and, although they generally struggled to craft clear-cut chances, Luis Muriel saw their best denied in stunning fashion by De Gea as United battled to return home with honours even. The pre-match debate surrounding Jose Mourinho's decision to drop Paul Pogba took on a new dimension after just 17 minutes when the Frenchman replaced the injured Ander Herrera, though he was unable to flourish as Sevilla dominated.United had to rely on the heroics of De Gea to keep them on level terms at the break, with the Spain international denying both Gabriel Mercado and Muriel late on – the Colombian drawing a remarkable save from the former Atletico Madrid star. The second half was similarly frustrating for the home side and United began to see more of the ball after the hour as the contest opened up. But ultimately neither team could find a way through, with Pablo Sarabia wasting a good chance for Sevilla late on, giving Vincenzo Montella's men work to do in the return leg at Old Trafford on March 13.

Three suicide bombers have hit the town of Konduga in north-east Nigeria killing at least 18 people. Two attacked a fish market and a third struck nearby, security sources said. Boko Haram jihadists are being blamed for the blasts, though the group has yet to say it was behind them. The bombers struck on Friday evening in the town, which lies some 30km (18 miles) south-east of the Borno state capital, Maiduguri. Wider reports of the attack only emerged on Saturday. Some reports speak of 19 dead - 18 civilians and a soldier. A least 50 more were injured. Boko Haram continues to launch attacks in the face of claims by the authorities to have defeated the group.

A minor earthquake with a 4.4 magnitude has affected parts of Wales and England.Shaking has been reported across south Wales, the south west of England and the Midlands. The British Geological Survey said the epicentre was approximately 20km north-north-east of Swansea and at a depth of 7.4km. Events of this magnitude only happen in the UK every 2-3 years, it added.

Kacie Anderson relied on the SOS feature from her Apple Watch to call 911 emergency services for her and her baby when her iPhone was flung out of reach during a car accident. The 24-year-old mom says she wore Apple Watch for a couple of years as part of lacrosse and basketball coaching, but never needed the SOS feature before. Her injuries from the crash were serious enough that medical attention at the scene of the accident was crucial to her being able to take care of her baby: While Anderson's son only suffered bruising and scrapes, her own injuries were more serious . Anderson says she feels "so blessed" she was wearing Apple Watch when the car crash happened after it saved her and her son's life. In the U.S., holding down the side button on Apple Watch for a few seconds calls 911 and sends a text to your emergency contact saying that you need help , all without having to tap through multiple apps in a terrifying situation.

Abdulai Baraytay Charged Maada Bio On The Premises Of Reckless Spending and Corruption. Erudite analyst and astute political scientist, Mr. Abdulai Baraytay, who also doubles as Presidential Spokesman for the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, His Excellency, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, has called on the Presidential Flagbearer of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party, Mr. Julius Maada Bio, to set the record straight, following an allegation of 18 Million Dollars being  swindled by Mr. Bio from State Account, during his reign as Head of State in 1996. Bio, who has come under very serious criticisms by potential voters, political commentators and members of the international community among others, was embarrassed at the Bintumani Conference Hall in Freetown, on Friday 15th February, 2018, where Dr. Samura Matthew Wilson Kamara, the APC Presidential Hopeful, let the cat out of the bag. However, Bio could not withstand the blush on his face, thus responded in the affirmative, with a clandestine attempt to rope Dr. Samura in. Furthermore, following Baraytay's recent acidic exposure of Bio, during a radio talk show on radio Democracy FM 98.1 on Friday 16th February, 2018 has urged numerous bloggers and social media users to join the line in calling on Bio, to account for the 18 Million Dollar fiasco hanging over his credibility ahead of the March 7th, 2018 polls.

Chibok girls' kidnapper jailed for 15 years. A man involved in the 2014 kidnapping of more than 200 schoolgirls from Chibok in northeast Nigeria has been jailed for 15 years, the government confirmed on Tuesday.

The conviction of Haruna Yahaya, 35, is the first in relation to the mass abduction, which triggered global outrage and sparked a worldwide campaign for the girls' release.

A total of 276 students were seized from the Government Girls Secondary School in the remote town in Borno state on the evening of April 14, 2014.

Fifty-seven escaped in the immediate aftermath. Since May 2016, a further 107 have escaped, been found or released after government talks with the jihadists, leaving 112 still in captivity.

Justice ministry spokesman Salihu Isah said Yahaya admitted to being involved when he appeared at a special court trying hundreds of Boko Haram suspects on Monday.

Nigeria began prosecuting people arrested during the insurgency last October, starting with 1,669 suspects held at a military detention facility in Kainji, in the central state of Niger.

It noted that they are not comfortable with the heat of Buhari's anti-corruption war because it is affecting them. The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership (CACOL) has said that Nigerians asking President Muhammadu Buhari not to contest in 2019 are those “feeling the heat” of his anti-graft fight. The chairman of the centre, Debo Adeniran, made the remark on Thursday, February 1, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos, insisting that the voices of such people are loudest in discrediting the president “because they know it is no more business as usual.’’

Adeniran said Buhari had acquitted himself remarkably well in the fight against corruption, “leaving no breathing space for treasury looters.’’ According to him, the recent “cacophony of voices” condemning all that the current administration has done is “proof of corruption fighting back.” “When you fight corruption, corruption fights back. Some of the recent voices condemning the president and asking him not to seek re-election are not honest in their assessment of his administration.“These people are not comfortable with the heat of the anti-corruption war, because it is affecting them.“They know things will continue to be difficult for them with Buhari in power because of their corrupt ways.

“That is why they do not want him to finish his first term, let alone wanting him to get a second term,’’ he said. Adeniran added that the recent naming of Buhari as “Anti-corruption champion in Africa” by the African Union attested to the strides of his administration in the anti-graft war. He said the honour had vindicated CACOL and others which had endured scathing criticisms for supporting the anti-corruption war of the federal government. The CACOL chairman expressed optimism that the award would add impetus to the fight and encourage the president to do more.Adeniran urged responsible Nigerians to support Buhari, saying “corruption cannot be fought and won by the government alone.” (NAN)

Meanwhile, the executive chairman of the Centre for Anti-corruption and Open Leadership (CACOL), Debo Adeniran, has asked Nigerians to be very vigilant in the coming days as politicians come to them for their votes. He, however, argued that even though President Muhammadu Buhari may not be the best, as claimed by some people, he had done enough within the last three years to warrant him being called a champion, especially in the area of the war against corruption.

Tuesday, 23 January 2018

Dr. Junaid Mohammed, a Second Republic lawmaker, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari not to listen to those advising him to run for the 2019 election.Muhammed said Nigerians are now isolated under the present government and the circumstance will be additionally intensified if Buhari proceeds past 2019. Addressing newsmen in Abuja at the weekend, he faulted governors of the All Progressives Congress, APC), who received President Buhari as the sole competitor of the gathering for the 2019 presidential decision. He said, “Most importantly, I don’t know who the general population is asking him to challenge race in 2019. Be that as it may, I knew, he gave a meeting to a national daily paper and said he would challenge and serve for just a single term. “There are a significant number of individuals who know the paper and the date of the paper.
I accept in the event that he is capable and good he should be bound by what he embraced to do.

“Most Nigerians will state he isn’t the main government official who made a guarantee, yet broke it. I don’t trust it is noteworthy for some individual to make a guarantee and walk on that guarantee basically in light of the fact that it is his own accommodation or his companions or priests instruct him to do as such. “Second issue needs to do with execution. In a vote based system, for there to be a honest to goodness government, you should win a free, reasonable and tenable decision. Regardless of whether you don’t stop by method for popular government, there is the thing that you bring in political terms, ‘execution authenticity.“Presently, if we somehow happened to be genuine, we would state give this man a chance to stand and we influence him to lose the race. Yet, the dread we have is that by winning the race, by demanding that he should challenge, he should likewise win. That implies fixing.

“He will additionally partition the nation and in the event that he prevails with regards to winning the race, there might be brutality throughout the decision, or after on the grounds that, unmistakably, larger part of Nigerians don’t put stock in his fitness, don’t put stock in his trustworthiness or anything any longer. He has completed one term, let him go home and rest and deal with himself. That is my recommendation.“By the guarantees made by the APC government and the lousy cast of characters brought into government, they have fizzled and flopped pitiably. To start with, they guaranteed to take the Boko Haram and thrashing it. Everyone you converse with will reveal to you that Boko Haram is alive. It has not been crushed disregarding the untruths radiating from the administration and a portion of the Generals. “Besides, they guaranteed to battle debasement. Not just have they induced and supported it, it is presently at the largest amount at the administration. This is the reason we are not making any considerable gouge in the battle against debasement.”

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Thursday directed all tertiary institutions to end their 2017 admission by January 25.The Board’s Head of Media, Dr Fabian Benjamin said the board’s decision came at a meeting where all issues and ones bordering on the admission process were taken into consideration. He said it was resolved that the academic calendar must be adhered to.

According to him, the directive becomes necessary as the board intends to meet up with the academic calendar as earlier agreed.“By implication, candidates who have gained admissions into various institutions and are yet to register or do not have admissions by January 25 should begin to make preparations for the 2018 UTME.

“The public must also note that the UTME results are valid for only one year and not three years as widely speculated.“If changes are made to the validity, I assure you the board would communicate appropriately to the public.”The board had recently said that the UTME examinations would take place between March 9 and 17, while the mock exams would take place in the first week of February.Benjamin also noted that the sale of Direct Entry forms are ongoing, while urging candidates who intend to apply to do so immediately as the sale of the DE forms ends on the same date with the UTME’s.

“It has come to our knowledge that a lot of candidates are not aware of the sale of the Direct Entry forms, which we have advertised.“We are calling on desirous candidates to please register their profile and obtain the pins from the vending platforms.“Candidates who want to apply to institutions through DE must note that the sale of the forms started same date as the UTME’s and would end on the same date which is on February 6.

“This form can be obtained through the same process as the UTME forms.“It could be purchased through vending commercial banks, Mobile Money Operators (MMO’s), Interswitch, NIPOST and Remita,” he said. Benjamin, however, noted that candidates should ensure that they disclose at the point of obtaining e-pins the exact pins they are paying for, that is, Direct Entry or UTME as some unknowingly purchase Direct Entry instead of UTME and vice-versa.

As herdsmen/farmers clash gets rampant in the country, Kwara state government has cried out over community leaders allowing suspected herdsmen or other individuals into their communities without knowledge of the Emir of Ilorin and chairman, Kwara state traditional council of chiefs, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari. According to the statement by Muyideen Akorede, the senior special assistant to the governor on media and communications, on Thursday, January 18, the order was issued by the security council at its meeting on Wednesday, January 17, in Ilorin.

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed charged the state police command to ensure compliance with the compensation exercise previously effected by the state security council to maintain peace between farmers and herdsmen. The council, having been briefed took note of the fight against insurgency in the northeast of the country, and encouraged security agencies in the state to increase their surveillance. It also advised citizens to be on the lookout so as to prevent infiltration of the state by suspected terrorists. The council has received reports of cultism and other related activities in the state, and therefore called on landlords to critically inspect their prospective tenants before accepting them as tenants.

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed also urged the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for intensity in their campaign against the indiscriminate use of prescription of drugs and other illicit substances in the state.

The statement further remarked that the council took note of recent violations of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) code on political news and programmes as well as suspected hate speech via the media. The council called on the broadcasting stations and individuals involved in such infractions to avoid actions capable of spreading disunity and rancor in the state.

Professor Umar Labdo Muhammad of the Faculty of Humanities, Northwest University, Kano has alleged that Benue State belongs to the Fulani by right of conquest.
The University Don predicated his claim on the fact that half of Benue State is part of the Bauchi Emirate and also half of the Adamawa Emirate.
In a post on his Facebook, Muhammad stressed that by extension, Benue is “part and parcel of Sokoto Caliphate” as such nobody has the right to expel Fulani from the state.
Muhammad also stated that Fulani are the largest single nation in the African continent and they have “remained unbeatable throughout their history.”The post reads, “Benue State belongs to the Fulani people by right of conquest. This is because half of the state is part of the Bauchi Emirate and the other half is part of the Adamawa Emirate. Benue is therefore part and parcel of the Sokoto Caliphate. So no one has the right to expel the Fulani from Benue under any guise.
“Second to the Arabs, perhaps the Fulani are the most benevolent and merciful conquerors in history. If they had applied the Nazi final solution to the natives, or if they had treated them the same way the European settlers treated Red Indians in North America or the Aborigines in Australia, the story would have been different toady.
“The Fulani are the largest single nation in West Africa and, perhaps, on the whole continent and they have remained unbeatable throughout their history.
“You can hate the Fulani, you can call them all sort of names, you can blackmail their spineless political leaders, you can conspire to wipe out the entire Fulani leadership in a single day, you can stage a coup and “orkarize” (excise) the core Fulani states from Nigeria, you can hate them to he’ll, but you can never beat them.
“Fulani’s main problem remains their meek, spineless, incompetent leaders that have lost all sense of responsibility and abandoned their people. But this problem, thank God, is not insurmountable.
“The Fulani are capable of changing their leaders: traditional, political, religious and cultural (I mean by cultural those so-called Fulani socio-cultural organizations that eat fat on the Fulani but cannot champion their cause or defend their rights). They have done this in the past and are capable of doing it again.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has denied making attempt to arrest President Muhammdu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari. Reports emerged last week that some security agents stormed the home of the President’s Chief of Staff to get him arrested. However, the EFCC said yesterday that it was not investigating Kyari, adding that it did not deploy its operatives in his Defence House quarters.

In a statement last night by its Acting Head of Media and Publicity, Samie Amaddin, the leading anti-graft agency said it did not make any attempt to arrest the COS.

It said, “Ordinarily, we would have ignored the report and allow it to end up in the dustbin of history, for that is where it actually belongs, but for the fact that it is a follow–up to an earlier similar report also titled: EFCC’s attempt to arrest Abba Kyari sparks panic in Aso Rock, which we considered an attempt to silence the commission from carrying on with its constitutional duties of fighting corruption; we have considered it necessary to clarify issues in relation thereof.

“For the purpose of clarification, the modus operandi of the EFCC does not accommodate the alleged invasion as the modus operandi of the commission has always been to scrutinise petitions upon receipt, look at the petition on the face value, if it has merit and to carry out preliminary investigation to establish a prima facie case.
“Once all these requirements are satisfied, the suspect(s) is (are) invited for questioning and interrogation and his (their) statement(s) taken under caution.
“All these are prelude to arraignment in a competent court of jurisdiction and a suspect who is being invited for interrogation is formally sent an invitation letter to that effect.
“The so-called invasion is entirely alien to the established mode of operations of the EFCC, established over the last one-and-a-half decades in line with international best practices. “Firstly, the commission will like to state that it is not investigating Mr. Kyari nor is it aware of any petition against him.

“Secondly, EFCC does not ‘invade’ the homes or offices of anyone the commission wishes to interact with in furtherance of the discharge of its mandate.
“The commission will properly notify and invite any person it wants to assist it in the resolution of any matter under examination.

“Thirdly, EFCC does not go to carry out invitations or arrests in the middle of the night. As a transparent organisation the commission carries out all its operations in broad daylight. “These and other standard operational procedures are what guide the activities of the commission and which have earned it worldwide acclaim over the years.
“The commission was therefore taken aback when an online medium went public with the story of a purported “impending arrest”. EFCC does not do speculative investigations or arrests.
“Therefore, the action of those behind the false reports could best be described as shouting wolf where none exists.
“It must be underscored that EFCC makes it a point of duty and professional responsibility to act within the ambit of the law. The commission cannot be intimated and crying wolf by anyone cannot stop the commission from carrying out its constitutional responsibility.”

Lagos—Senior Pastor of the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to jettison the 2019 general elections and embark on restructuring Nigeria saying it is time to renegotiate Nigeria’s union. In his state of the nation broadcast, yesterday, at the church auditorium, Bakare declared that: “What Nigeria needs now is not an election but a return to the drawing board. I call for restructuring and not for elections.“

In his speech entitled: ‘It is time to renegotiate our union’, the televangelist clarified the 12 prophecies he made on the first day of 2018, noting that his declaration was not a presidential announcement but a call for pray
ers. Throwing his weight behind the agitation for a comprehensive restructuring of the country, Bakare said process reforms as advocated by the president would not address foundational reforms. He said: “I totally agree with Mr. President that we need process reforms; otherwise, we would not be appointing dead men to head parastatals, but can process reforms replace foundational structural reforms? Never. Be that as it may, let no one confuse the genuine call to restructure the nation with the gimmicks of political opportunists who ride on the restructuring wave for their perceived advantage. Many of them talk the talk but neither walked the talk in the past nor will do so in the future.

“Therefore, I say to those who have the power to take the decisions and actions necessary to end these atrocities, especially by restructuring the nation, but have failed to do so for political gains, that they are attempting to establish a city by iniquity and there are dire consequences.” Describing the current structure the country operates as a deathtrap, he said there was need to adopt a pragmatic approach to restructuring the nation. According to him: “The current edifice of state has become a deathtrap. All around are cracks on the wall that originate from the structural foundations. Those cracks are dripping with blood and the stones in the wall are crying out. “The Nigerian state has a choice to make on the way forward to lasting peace and prosperity: It is either the path of divine judgment reminiscent of a Jehu revolution or a choice to renegotiate our union through a pragmatic approach to restructuring the nation.”
