YOU ARE CALLED TO BE A DIFFERENT PEOPLE

There are opportunities in this world. It is opportunities that made the richest, most populous, most celebrated and the likes what they are today. If not for opportunities, they would have remained dormant and their ability likely untapped for all time. But it is worthwhile to know that, opportunity is like a visitor. He never stay with you, he just check if you are at home; if you are at home, he stays with you but if you are not, he proceeds on his journey. Being at home for opportunities is that we have prepared for him, we have anticipated his coming and so we have prepared adequately for the time he may come suddenly.

For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 1Thesa.5:2

The time that opportunity will come is unknown, but it is a thing we can do now is to prepare for his arrival. Many of us wanted to start a business but due to financial incapability we refuse to go and learn more about what we wanted to do. We really need to be prepared for opportunities before it can manifest in our lives. You can never be opportuned to gain access to opportunities until you are opportuned to prepare for it.

Whatever you want to do, do it now. The day of the Lord cometh like a thief in the night. Procrastination is your real enemy. Just trust in the Lord today and he will direct your path. Don’t expect the weather to be cool before you start, reach out to get whatever you want. You see, there is nothing like luck. What luck means is opportunity meet with preparedness.

Whatever you want to do or want to be, prepare today and act as if you see it coming in the next hours and by so doing, the Lord will deliver unto us great opportunities. Don’t ever think you can’t, you surely can. You are made to solve problems and not create one or linger over one. Don’t give up, just start getting up and prepare for the next upliftment.

It is one of the most majestic ironies of history that the very cross on which Jesus died has become the event in which His followers glory, to the extent that Paul would even determine to revel in nothing other than the cross of Jesus Christ.

The reason for Paul being captivated by the cross is, of course, that salvation for the people of God was accomplished there. And this salvation is described by Paul in terms of two distinct achievements:

First, the cross of Jesus Christ has crucified the world to us. When we gaze, as believers, at our sins that are placed upon Christ and paid for at the cross, suddenly the exceeding sinfulness of sin becomes more apparent to us. We desire no longer to take active part in the worldly pursuits, headlong rebellion, and self-worship that resulted in the gruesome spectacle of the cross. As Jesus pays the heinous penalty for our specific sins, sin in general becomes repulsive to us.

Second,we are crucified to the world. The world is now just as repulsed by us as we are by it. How is this a benefit? Jesus tells us that it is because "I have chosen you out of the world" that the world hates you. And what the world hates about you is Christ in you; they hated Him and so they now hate the way you resemble Him.

It is the great privilege of the cross that it causes us to hate sin and that it conforms us to the image of our Saviour, which in turn causes the sinful world to hate us. This transformation can and did only occur because of the cross, and so our boast should be only in the cross.

Furthermore, then John said in reply, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow in our company.” Jesus said to him, “Do not prevent him, for whoever is not against you is for you.” Luke 9:49-50

Why would the Apostles try to prevent someone from casting a demon out in Jesus’ name? Jesus was not concerned about it and, in fact, tells them not to prevent him. So why were the Apostles concerned? Most likely because of jealousy.

The jealousy we see in this case among the Apostles is one that can creep into the Church at times. It has to do with a desire for power and control. The Apostles were upset because the person casting out demons did not follow in their company. In other words, the Apostles were not able to be in charge of this person.

Though this may be hard to understand it may be helpful to see it in a modern context. Say someone is in charge of a ministry at church and another person or persons start up a new ministry. The new ministry is quite successful and, as a result, those who have been working in the older more established ministries may get upset and a bit jealous.

This is silly but it’s also reality. It happens all the time, not only within a church setting but also in our daily lives. When we see someone else doing something that is successful of bearing good fruit, we may get envious or jealous.

In this case, with the Apostles, Jesus is quite understanding and compassionate about the whole thing. But He is also quite clear. “Do not prevent him, for whoever is not against you is for you.” Do you see things in life this way? When someone does well do you rejoice or are you negative? When another does good things in Jesus’ name, does that fill your heart with gratitude that God is using that person for good or do you get envious?

Reflect, today, upon the many good things going on all around you. Reflect, especially, upon those who are furthering the Kingdom of God. And reflect upon how you feel about them. Pray that you will see them as your coworker in the vineyard of Christ rather than as your competitor.

Not that alone, cultivating a thankful heart is the key to overcoming discouragement, grief, pain, or discontentment. If we develop the habit of counting our blessings then we, like Paul, can learn to be content—even joyful—in the darkest of times or most difficult of circumstances.

However, the psalmist here reminds us that the greatest benefit of a grateful heart, and therefore the greatest motivation to a thankful spirit, is not the blessing that it brings to us but the witness it is to others. Anyone can be happy and thankful when everything is going well; but what a testimony it is when God's people are rejoicing among the ruins of their temporal pleasures!
When a child of God is seen searching through the wreckage of shattered dreams, lost loved ones, or debilitating pain for reasons to praise their Lord it is an unparalleled proof of the power of Christ to transform and to satisfy His people. When they publicly call upon His name, making His deeds known among the masses, the gratefulness of God's children redounds to the glory of God's grace.

We are nowhere as able to shine for Christ as in the darkness of our own heartache and loss. In that moment we have the greatest potential to fulfill the greatest purpose of our lives — to exalt the name of our Lord Jesus. So, no matter what your current circumstances, give thanks to the Lord, calling on the name of Christ as your joy and sufficiency. Make known His goodness among the masses.

In the Christendom, not everything cometh by chance or grace, there are some things that come only as a reward. Of course, we receive salvation by grace, we receive the Holy Spirit by grace, and we receive spiritual gifts by grace through the engagement of the Holy Spirit. But there are some others things that come as a form of reward.

Moreover by them is thy servant warned; and in keeping of them there is great reward. Psalms 19:11

The psalmist was talking here about the commandments and statues of God. He said they are far better than gold and through them he is warned and in keeping them comes his reward. Before God can commit something great that we might desire into our hands, he is going to first see if we can handle them. And the only way to test if we can handle them is to check if his commandment that goes alongside such purpose is functional in positivity in our life. When talking about the commandment in the new-testament, it is not just about the laws of Moses. It is sometimes also, the word of Jesus, the revelation he gave unto us, what he ministered into our hearts and what he has told us through the mouth of his prophets. And in obeying them comes great reward.

Trust is something that God works with. And that is why the word of the Lord says to show ourselves approved unto God. It was also recorded that, ‘his word tried them’. Tried them for what? To check if they can be trusted. You will have to show yourself as one who is obedient before you can enjoy some certain realms in God. It is like working in an office, if you don’t obey or follow the in-house style, if you are not sacked, you won’t be paid. His commandments warns us and in keeping them is great reward.

There is a reason for every upliftment that children of God may experience by God. There is a reason God uplifts us into great and high places of the world. But its just a pity that most of us forgot who brought us there immediately we assume the position or the power. We are more prone to follow the existing trends in our new community or environment we find ourselves as a result of the upliftment.

But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire. For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God: the Lord thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. Deut. 7:5-6

When God lifts us up, it is simply to raise his standard in the area where he has placed us. Many children of God prayed so hard for promotion and immediately they got it, for the fear of rejection and being different, they continue with the existing trends and they refuse to let God take the lead any longer. They continually to live in denial of Christ. We have many God made professors today who had useless themselves just to blend into the system, rather than stand for what qualified them to be professors.

You are called to be a different people, you must always take up the cross of Christ anywhere and everywhere you go, and you must know of a certainty that wherever you find yourself, it is a necessity for you to pitch the flag of the reign of Jesus Christ. Don’t let promotion blind you, don’t let anything separate you from God, nothing else can separate you except yourself. God lifts us all up simply to raise the banner of his kingdom in all spheres of life. Do not be scared of rejection or even sack. If God does not sack you, no mortal man can sack you. And even if they do, God can never sack you, he will keep his faithfulness up to you.
